SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Post Holes clips are QuickTime™ movie files with
embedded alpha channels. Therefore, you must have QuickTime™ installed
on any computer utilizing Post Holes clips. Your computer
and editing software will not be able to recognize or import
Post Holes clips without QuickTime™ installed. Free
QuickTime™ software is available from Apple™ on
their website at www.apple.com/quicktime/products/qt/.
POST
HOLES CLIPS IMPORT GUIDELINES
TO USE IN AFTER EFFECTS™
Post Holes clips have alpha channels that are PREMULTIPLIED
OVER BLACK. By default you should be able to import them
into AE and have them work correctly. But you may want
to make sure that under the “interpret footage”
settings for the clip, its radio button is on “Premultiplied
- Matted with Color”
TO USE IN FINAL CUT PRO 4™
Post Holes clips have alpha channels that are PREMULTIPLIED
OVER BLACK. The default alpha channel setting in Final
Cut Pro is STRAIGHT. To get the clips to composite correctly
in Final Cut Pro, change the alpha channel (or ALPHA TYPE)
setting from STRAIGHT to BLACK.
NOTE: Compositing Post Holes Clips in a Final Cut Pro
sequence using the DV codec may produce undesirable results
due to compression artifacts. For best results, import
the Post Holes clips into a Final Cut sequence using “none”
or “animation” codecs set to “best”
quality. After compositing, compress the composited footage
in a DV codec sequence for output to a DV deck or camera
via Firewire™.
TO USE IN MEDIA 100™
Post Holes clips are formatted to the CCIR 601 NTSC format
of 720 x 486 using non-square pixels running at 29.97
fps. To use them in a Media 100 system that does not have
720 x 486 capability, best results will be achieved by
resizing the clips in After Effects or a similar application
to the aspect ratio used by your Media 100 system. Then
import the resized clips into Media 100.
TO USE IN AVID™ SYSTEMS
Unfortunately, Avid systems do not support the “premultiplied”
alpha channels contained in
Post Holes clips. You can use Post Holes clips in an Avid
system, but you might notice a faint dark edge around
the image. On some darker backgrounds this edge is not
noticeable. You may elect to use our clips in an Avid
system, but at this time, we do not support this usage.
The import settings for an Avid system are as follows:
Aspect Ratio: 601 Non-Square
Color Levels: RGB
Field Order: Non-interlaced
Alpha Channel: Invert Existing Alpha
IF AN AVID SYSTEM IS YOUR PRIMARY COMPOSITING SOFTWARE,
PLEASE CONTACT US TO OBTAIN A STRAIGHT ALPHA CHANNEL VERSION
OF ANY POST HOLES COLLECTION. (UNFORTUNATELY, STRAIGHT ALPHA
CHANNEL VERSIONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE VIA DOWNLOAD.)
